Got away from Malaysia for the first time during the recent Christmas week after a dizzy dengue week! Reason? Vacation. Destination? Singapore!
Ya it might be very near, but for someone who has never been out of Malaysia before, it's a very great experience! Now, get ready for a not so good narrating about the eye-opening trip...
23rd December 2010
Departed with my family around 1pm with car to my uncle's house at Johore. Reached there around 4 or 5 o'clock before he fetched us to the customs.
Since it was my first time hanging around in the customs everything was new to me. It was quite a walk to reach the checkpoint from the entrance of Sultan Iskandar Building. There were long queues to pass the Malaysian Customs as it was the time where the office hour ended.
After passing through Malaysian Customs, we took a bus ride to Singapore Customs a.k.a. Woodlands Checkpoint. Yay, we were officially out of Malaysia! Same as Malaysia, Singapore also uses electronic passport system for its citizens. But since we are Malaysians, we had to pass through manually a.k.a. let the officers to stamp our passports.
After some tiring travel at both customs, we took another bus which headed to my cousin's house at Little India. I had noticed a lot of things along the journey:
- Their outer ring roads have very ample space more expansion! Unlike Malaysia, these roads can be expanded for at least one lane for each side, although most likely they won't need it.
- Their roads are almost all accompanied with pedestrian lanes - and those lanes are awesomely wide (about 4-5 persons wide)!
- This is very sarcastic towards Malaysians... I see more Aston Martins than Protons!
In just an one hour bus journey, I can smell the difference between a developing country and a developed country. The difference between Malaysia and Singapore after they split in these 47 years is so vast.
Had our dinner at my cousin's house and slept before we start our real exploration at the country of Merlion...
To be continued...
